Research

Ian’s research looks at how graphic narratives (mostly comics) tell stories, communicate ideas and create experiences, with a particular focus on their use of material elements. He is the author of Comics and the Senses (2014) and The Materiality of Digital Comics (2025), along with many shorter publications. He co-edited Representing Multiculturalism in Comics and Graphic Novels (2015) and two volumes on Violence in Comics (2020). Find out more via the links below.
